The Ghana Police Service will soon deploy regional commanders to the newly created six regions, Inspector General of Police David Asante-Apeatu has revealed.

According to him, the new regional commanders have been selected and will soon be posted to the new regions to ensure the regions are on solid security platform.

Speaking at the annual end of year get together of the West Africa Security Service Association (WASSA) of the Ghana Police Service on Friday, March 22, the IGP said this is to safely ensure the arrival of political appointees of the new regions and also bring policing to the door-steps of the ordinary Ghanaian.

The IGP expressed confidence stating that “The new regional commanders have been selected after due diligence. The Police Administration have no doubt that they will meet our expectations”.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo speaking at the event also underscored the need for justice to be served for all irrespective of who is involved in a crime.

According to President Akufo-Addo, “it is important for the growth of the society that justice is done to all manner of person irrespective of who they are”.

His call comes in the wake of assault on a police officer by a trotro driver and his mate; and also Ghanaians Times journalists who were assaulted by some police officers.

He however, remarked that those who assaulted the police officer had been arrested and remanded, applauding the Ghana Police for investigating into the assault of the journalists and interdicting the police who were involved.

Present at the WASSA was the Minister of Interior; Ambrose Dery, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration; Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, including the men and women in the police service.
