General Overseer of Christian Hope Ministry at Ohwim in Kumasi, Dr. Bishop Francis Amankwah has called on the legislator to pass a Law that will ensure the prosecution of people who disparage the Free SHS policy and other beneficial government policies.
According to him, the introduction of the Free SHS policy by president Akufo-Addo has helped to reduce the financial burden on parents and guardians, but unfortunately, some Ghanaians and politicians are denigrating the policy with propaganda.
“The free SHS policy is not meant for any political party or group of people, it is for all Ghanaians and anybody who wants it to fail is evil,” he stressed.
“Now by the grace of God, Ghanaian children through education are is wise as well as enlightened and cannot be influenced by cheap propaganda,” he added. Bishop Francis Amankwaa noted that the beginning of every implementation comes with challenges but with prayer and support from Ghanaians, government can sustain the policy.
The implementation of the free Senior High School policy was the NPP’s flagship campaign promise but was met with mixed reactions from Ghanaians when it’s implementation was riddled with some challenges.
Many have lauded the policy as an intervention that will reduce the number of school dropouts in the country and provide free access to students from poor backgrounds.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo speaking at New York during the 72nd UN Assembly Meeting said the free SHS has provided an opportunity for 90,000 Ghanaian children and decreased the number of dropouts.
But speaking to Otec News, the Minister advised politicians to be truthful and stop the propaganda or government enact a Law to prosecute propagandist who speak against the policy.
“Why is it that someone is doing something beneficial and we want to play propaganda with it. When someone brings a good policy, let us all support the person. If something is not right about it and you want to criticize, it must be done constructively so that the person will better it,” he concluded.
