The Supreme Court on Monday, July 24, permitted businessman, Alfred Woyome, to take a break from his oral examination to take some drugs as he claimed he was sick.

Mr Woyome’s lawyer Ken Anku requested the court to grant his client permission to take his medication.

Mr Woyome appeared in court on Monday, 24 July to be orally examined by Deputy Attorney General, Godfred Dame, on how he intends to repay the GHS51million wrongly paid to him as judgment debt.

The court granted Mr Woyome a 15-minute break to take his medication and also offered him a seat throughout the examination due to his ill health – a preferential treatment rarely offered by the court.

After about two hours of oral examination, the judge adjourned the case to October 2, 2017.

Mr. Woyome was paid GHS51 million after he claimed he helped Ghana raise funds to construct stadia for the hosting of the 2008 African Cup of Nations.

However, an Auditor General’s report released in 2010 held that the amount was paid illegally to him. Subsequently, the Supreme Court in 2014 ordered Mr. Woyome to pay back the money to the state but he has not complied.
