Social media users 'charge' on Akufo-Addo following 'handshake snub' video
Social media users are not sparing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo after the emergence of a video of him subtly avoiding a ‘proper’ handshake with Former President John Dramani Mahama on several social media platforms.
Former President John Mahama and President Akufo-Addo have over time, been captured in several videos and photos, chatting, and interacting heartily, sometimes, exchanging a few words and laughing.
A trending video circulating on social media, however, portrays a somewhat ‘different’ situation and raises questions about the current relationship between the two.
The President appeared to have somewhat given a rather unusually brief handshake to his ‘contender’ when he went round to shake hands with dignitaries present at the maiden edition of the Kofi Annan Peace and Security Forum Wednesday, September 4, 2019.
It appeared as though the former President was ‘skipped’ with the pleasantries; his demeanor with the persons just before and after the former president has raised eyebrows of several Ghanaians.
While some are questioning the ‘hurried nature of the handshake, others seem to suggest that the two may be ‘avoiding each other’.

A display of pettiness and hatred by President of Ghana against his predecessor. Watch how he shook hands with the others and how he did so with former President Mahama. This was at an international peace program. God save Ghana from this vindictive President. pic.twitter.com/oG3yj7DMvd— Issifu Seidu Kudus (@IssifuKudus) September 5, 2019
This is how intolerant @NAkufoAddo can be. How did we even allow a person like this to be Prez.? #wotw3— Lady Nash (@Elvisyorm) September 5, 2019
Mahama will continue to give Ghanaians reasons why he should return to the seat of Govt. pic.twitter.com/uymDqBTjc6
Ghanaians don't like to have a president who would disgrace himself and the country with this show of bitterness. Bitterness is not good. It eats the soul. Always be as graceful as President Mahama and shun the petty bitterness of @NAkufoAddo pic.twitter.com/Z24ygWvgaz— Kofi Adoli (@KofiAdoli) September 5, 2019
