Former Ghana captain Stephen Appiah is not lost on the challenge ahead by his addition to the technical team of the Black Stars, but says he is honoured by the opportunity.

The ex-Juventus midfielder has been named technical coordinator of the four-time African champions following the recent appointment of Kwesi Appiah as coach of the Black Stars.

The 36-year-old previously served in various peripheral roles since hanging up his boots in 2015.

“It is a big honour for me to be named as a member of the technical team,” Appiah told pressmen.

“I am very happy for this opportunity and I will try and do my best for the team.

“It is big challenge but I will do my best and make sure the team succeeds.”

Appiah was Ghana's captain as the Black Stars featured at their maiden World Cup tournament in 2006, also going ahead to play at South Africa 2010 four years later.

Having retired from the Black Stars later in 2010, the former Fenerbahce man was a member of Ghana's team for the 2014 World Cup in a non-playing capacity.

According to coach Kwesi Appiah, Stephen Appiah's new role is to act as a link between the Black Stars playing body and the technical team, in addition to periodic scouting duties.
