The Minority in Parliament is demanding for the full report on the work done by the Commission for the creation of some six (6) new regions.

According to the Minority Caucus, the matters arising from the creation of the new regions informed their request for the full report by the Justice Brobbey Commission of Inquiry which completed and submitted its work to the President about five months ago.

Speaking to the Parliamentary Press Wednesday morning, Minority leader, Mr Haruna Iddrisu, called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to make the report public.

The report he added should be made available for openness, truthfulness and transparency in the ongoing process. Parliament he lamented has not been given a copy and added that, the report has been shrouded in secrecy.

‘’It’s been almost five months since the commission submitted to government its report containing recommendations to create new regions.

Its content however shrouded in so much secrecy that even parliament as a co-equal branch of government, has been officially denied access to the report. So we demand that government publishes the full report…and a copy made available to the Parliament of Ghana.’’

The instrument for the referendum he said has been laid, however, the document that will form the basis for the consideration has not been published and a copy made available.

He likened this to a surgical operation done in the dark and stressed on the need for government to a take cue to do the appropriate thing. The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has set December 27, 2018 for the referendum on the creation of new regions.

The referendum on the proposed creation of four additional regions is estimated to cost the country around GH¢932 million.
