Stop the dirty campaign; I never endorsed Mahama – Naabu fights back

Aggrieved NDC MP for Yunyoo, Joseph Bipoba Naabu has warned his colleague NDC Members of Parliament campaigning for former President Mahama to stop peddling false reports about he endorsing the former leader.

“I never signed any paper to say that I’m supporting former President Mahama; Its just a lie. I was surprised when I saw it last night on one of the social media platforms that MP for Yunyoo was deceived to sign. I’m too intelligent and I’m too smart to sign a paper without looking at it,” he told Kasapa 102.5 FM.

Explaining the issue on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM, Mr Bipoba Naabu said six of his colleagues in parliament including John Jinapor, Tanko, Shaibu and Teye-Larbi among others beseeched him outside the Chamber to lobby him to endorse former President Mahama as the Flagbearer in the 2020 campaign, which he declined to so.

“I simply told them, do you have ice block in your ears? don’t you know that I’m supporting Hon. Babgin and why do you bring this paper for me to sign? So I never signed,” he told host Kwaku Owusu Adjei.

He accused the followers of Mahama of fraudulently smuggling an attendance sheet to check absenteeism in Parliament, which normally comes in a plain sheet of paper to capture the signatures of the NDC MPs which they’d filed to deceive the public as an endorsement by these MPs. To him, the dishonesty and dirty campaigns will cost Mahama in the internal polls.

The Minority National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament are divided over reported endorsement of the candidature of former President John Mahama by some of its members ahead of the party’s primaries to elect a Flagbearer.

Reports are rife that forms had been sent around in Parliament urging NDC MPs to sign as endorsement of Mr Mahama’s 2020 candidature.

The likes of the MP for Adaklu, Kwame Agbodza claimed Minority MPs have had several meetings with the former President and assured him of their support of his candidature should he contest.

“We have met him and encouraged him just as other people have encouraged other people including the Second Deputy Speaker, we’re galvanizing our own resources, raising funds by ourselves to support ex-President Mahama if he contests.”

However his colleague MP from the Volta Region, Richard Quashigah has said a lot of MPs were coerced into signing the endorsement document.
