Dela Coffie
Vocal activist of the National Democratic Congress( NDC) and frequent critic of former President John Dramani Mahama, Dela Coffie has accused his party of engaging in “excessive propaganda” for denying that they both trained political activists( vigilantes) as security operatives.
Mr Coffie known for his ferocious criticism of political members and opponents alike stressed that the training of party activists is an age-old phenomenon which is unlikely to end, stressing that both the NDC and NPP, who have denied training activists at Asutsuare and other places, are failing to uphold the truth. In essence, they are being dishonest with the people of Ghana.
In an acerbic criticism on Facebook, he called on both parties to do away with “the crap” in our politics and re-engage in decent and honest politicking.
“Indeed, recruitment and training of political party activists as security operatives did not start today and I doubt if it will ever end. It happened under the NDC regime and it is happening under the current dispensation. And I am passing this comment as someone familiar with the trend.
For once, let’s cut the crap out of our politics, and recultivate and uphold the finesse of political decency, receptivity to ideas and truth above excessive propaganda,” he contended.
Background
Former President John Mahama accused the NPP of training party vigilantes groups at Asutsuare, ostensibly to use them to ‘disrupt’ the 2020 general elections in the NPP’s favour.
But the NPP, through its national communications director, Yaw Buaben Asamoah, denied the allegations, stating that the former President was spewing untruths and
that no such thing was happening anywhere in the country.
Yet the NDC was adamant, maintaining their stance that the training was going on and that it had ample evidence to back their claim.
Subsequently, the National Security Council Secretariat denied the claim in a statement, adding that only routine regular training of properly qualified security personnel was taking place and that the former President was being deliberately dishonest since he is familiar with the training processes at Asutsuare.
However, Dele Coffie’s assertions, if true, will mean that the two parties and the National Security Council Secretariat are being untruthful.
