Some parents whose wards are entering Senior High School for the first time have lauded the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the introduction of the Free Senior High School policy.

According to the parents, the introduction of the Free SHS policy by the Akufo-Addo-led government has brought huge financial relief to them as it has taken away their stress and burdens.

Contrary to allegations that the Free SHS policy implemented isn’t effective and a scam to deceive Ghanaians because money is still derived from people, the parents told Ghanaweb.com that they’ve not been made to pay a dime since they enrolled their wards in the various schools.

Senior High Schools across the country today, September 16 have begun enrolling first-year students after the Ghana Education Service (GES) placed them using the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).

Ghanaweb visited the Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School, Accra Academy and St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School to monitor the processes and ascertain if parents were faced with challenges with a section of the media alleging that some first-year students are being turned away.

Speaking with Ghanaweb.com, some parents in the above-mentioned schools averred that the processes have been smooth with no reported hiccups.

Meanwhile, some first-year students on Sunday, September 15, who reported at the Mfantsipim Senior High School in the Central Region, were left stranded after authorities of the school turned them away with their trunks and chop boxes.

The school in an explanation stated that the students were wrongly placed under the self-placement module of the CSSPS.

The self-placement has been faced with challenges as thousands of students, who are waiting to be enrolled, have thronged the Black Stars Square for placement.

As a result of spending long hours in the queue to get placed, a female JHS student collapsed at the centre.

Despite the challenges that have engulfed this year’s computerized placement, there is still a big dose of gratitude on the part of parents who are benefiting from the Free SHS Policy by the Nana Addo government.

Watch below a reaction from parents as they express their gratitude to the current government for the introduction of the policy.
