he President of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr. Kwabena Opoku Adusei, says if government does not take steps to address the concerns of doctors, the consequences of their strike action would be dire for the country.

According to the GMA President, the government must stick to the timeline the National Labour Commission has set for the amicable resolution of the issues the GMA has raised, lest "it will be bad for the nation".

A letter signed by Dr. Frank Serebour, GMA's Executive Secretary noted that the doctors in the public sector will from next Monday, February 18 withdraw all services including emergency care, in-patient care indefinitely.

Dr. Serebour explained that the decision was taken after all the series of meetings, consultations and correspondence with stakeholders like the National Labour Commission (NLC), Ministry of Health and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission following the migration of doctors to the Single Spine Salary Structure.

But before the strike action degenerates, Dr. Serebour recommended the establishment of a committee to discuss the concerns which have led to the withdrawal of services to all out-patients and attend to only emergency and in-patients cases.
