President Akufo-Addo has urged Ghanaians to eat well and avoid being obese.
Too many of us are overweight” he said sparking laughter in the house while presenting his fourth State of the Nation Address (SoNA) in Parliament on Thursday.
According to him. "as the nation has made progress in eradicating the communical diseases that used to be the main cause of mortality; we’re in danger of falling into the lifestyle disease trap…too many of us are overweight and obesity is an increasing problem even among young people. The food we eat, mode of cooking and the lack of exercise are all now having a great impression on our health".
He further urged that "it is time we all learn to take responsibility for our individual health and accept that our health is determined by our lifestyle".
His address is in accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana and the Standing Orders of the Parliament of Ghana.
The address is to update Ghanaians on the government’s progress and outline plans for the next financial year.
