Former President John Dramani Mahama has for the first time admitted that there are cracks within the top hierarchy of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following fallouts from the 2016 elections.

He observes that this is the direct opposite of the actual situation on the ground as those at the grassroots are firm, united and strong prosecuting the party’s course to recapture power in 2020.

Addressing party supporters during his recent visit to the Northern Region, he disclosed that the party’s Council of Elders are working tirelessly to mend the differences of those at the top in order to make the front of the NDC better ahead of the 2020 polls

“But I want to make an observation, since I started going around I realized that the Problem of the party is not at the grassroots. Our members are firm, united and strong. The problem of our party is at the top. But I can assure that those at the top the Council Elders are doing everything possible to work to bring all of us together so that we all can form one formidable party in order we can mount a good opposition to the NPP administration”, he disclosed.

He underscored the need for the party to resolve the internal wrangling among members at the top, noting failure to do so would affect the party in the 2020 general elections.

According to him, the Member of Parliament for Damongo Adams Mutawakilu, former District Chief Executive (DCE) Ali Kassim and former Minister of Agriculture Alhaji Mohammed Muniru-Limuna are all leading members of the NDC in the Damongo constituency and that they are working together and are united with the same objective of ensuring NDC becomes victorious in 2020.

He singled out the MP for Damongo Hon Mutawakilu as an MP who is doing a very good job as an NDC ranking member on Energy in parliament commending constituents for lending him the needed support to deliver.
