US Ambassador to Ghana, Stephanie Sullivan, has assured that her government is committed to supporting Ghana’s progress towards self-reliance.

She reiterated that Ghana has many potentials and possibilities to become a country that needs no foreign assistance or aid.

“When we talk about assisting Ghana in her journey to self-reliance, we do not focus on the difficulties, but imagine the possibilities.” She averred.

The Diplomat was speaking at the 243rd US Independence Day Celebrations held in Accra Today.

This year’s theme is “50 Years on The Moon” and it is in honour of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission that took humans to the moon for the first time.

According to Stephanie Sullivan, the landing on the moon by astronaut Neil Armstrong is not a giant leap for astronauts, or NASA, or even the US but for all of humanity.

“Therefore, as we celebrate America’s birthday and reflect on one of humanity’s greatest triumphs. I’m just excited about our partnership with our Ghanaian friends to promote an even brighter future here.” The Ambassador indicated.

She added that the US “enthusiastically supports Ghana’s promotion of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (or STEM) education” which she stated are the foundational areas for Ghana long-term development.

The event saw the attendance of dignitaries such as Ministers of State, Ambassadors, as well as members of the National Peace Council.

On his part, Interior Minister Ambrose Dery, acknowledged the Ambassador for her complimentary remarks to the people of Ghana and the US government’s commitment to strengthen the Ghana-US ties

The Minister maintained that the two countries will remain committed to deepening their relationship in the areas of strengthening democracy and accountable governance.

Addressing the Ambassador on the issue of visa restrictions on the country, the Interior Minister stated that, “I take this opportunity to assure you of Ghana’s readiness to continue to grow bilateral relations between our countries and cooperate to bring to closure matter of US visa restrictions being imposed on Ghana”
