Upper West Regional Executives of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC)has condemned the “appalling state of insecurity” in the area after the gruesome murder of the party’s constituency chairman for Daffiama-Busie-Issa, Richard Bayiviela Puolabong.
The late Chairman was shot dead on May 8 between 2130 hours to 1000 hours ,five kilometers away from Wa Township by unidentified gunmen.
The criminals stopped his car with a touch light that appeared as a police check point compelling the deceased to stop and then he was shot and killed instantly, the police reported on Thursday.
At a News briefing in Wa later in the day, the NDC Regional Executives expressed worry about growing insecurity in the Region and called on government to take steps to protect citizens and residents alike.
“It is heartbreaking that, at this moment, the citizens of this country are being subjected to unnecessary excruciating cost of living, our security issues have become abysmal,”the Upper West Regional Communication Officer of NDC, Mr Prosper Puo-ire said. He called on the top hierarchy of the Criminal Investigative Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to immediately deploy their intelligence on the ground to “apprehend the criminals committing atrocities and holding the citizens under siege”.
He urged the bereaved family and the rank and file of the NDC party to remain calm as they trusted the competences and professionalism of the police to apprehend the culprits.
The body of the late Daffiama-Busie-Issa Constituency Chairman has been deposited at the Upper West Regional Hospital Mortuary.
The driver who also fell victim of the attack sustained severe injuries and is said to be responding to treatment at the same facility.
The Police have since launched an investigation seeking to arrest culprits of the heinous crime as the officers appeal to the public to volunteer any information concerning any suspected criminal.
