Former President John Dramani Mahama was engaged in propaganda with his recent comments on the rampaging of some youth believed to be members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Adomako Baafi, Director of Communications of the NPP, has said.

Mr Mahama, reacting to news about the youth who have attacked state institutions and other public offices, said the Akufo-Addo government is reaping the fruits of vigilantism which it sowed while in opposition.

"When you sow the wind, you reap a whirlwind!” Mr Mahama tweeted, adding: “Political ‘vigilantism’ is spiralling out of control and government doesn’t appear to be able to deal with the situation.”

“And the tragedy is that most of our moral society have become passive spectators,” Mr Mahama added.

But reacting to these comments in an interview with Accra News’ Obeng Mensah on Monday, October 30, Mr Baafi said: “Ex-President Mahama did propaganda while in government and hasn’t stopped even after being kicked out of office by Ghanaians. He continues to do propaganda in opposition and that is unfortunate.

“The PNDC/NDC gave birth to vigilantism in this country. People were beaten during voters registration exercise when the NDC was in power, yet, nothing was done. A former Minister of Interior, Mark Woyongo, openly told us that violence begets violence, inciting violence, yet, NDC did not act.

“Several NPP supporters were killed at Agbogbloshie by NDC thugs, nothing was done about it. NDC thugs have over the years killed people throughout the country, yet, when they were in power nothing was done about it and so what is Mr Mahama talking about? That is why I said he keeps doing propaganda with the issue.

“Fortunately, we have a President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who has condemned the actions of the youth and has asked the police to act, and so what is Mr Mahama talking about? What the youth are doing is wrong, we have condemned it and we have asked the police to act, unlike the NDC that did nothing about the vigilantism.”
