The ranking member for Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee Inusah Fuseini has stated that the vigilantism bill lack conceptual clarity.
According to him, the concept of the bill is not clear on how to solve the issue of vigilantism in the country.
He called for stakeholders’ input into the bill to craft a veritable and robust legal framework to deal with the canker.
"The bill as presently presented appears to lack conceptual clarity, what are we dealing with?" What is the problem are we dealing with the symptoms but not the disease," He stated.
The Member of parliament for Tamale Central was speaking at a stakeholder conference to discuss concerns and perspectives in respect to the vigilantism and other related offences bill.
The MP also expressed worry over the growing incident of vigilantism in the country which he said undermines our democracy.
"The growing incident of vigilantism undermines our very democratic ethics and values but all of us are not United on what we ought to do to bring this canker to an end," he said.
"...the potential threat of undermining the constitutional right of persons to exercise their franchise."
Earlier this year the president instructed the Attorney General to prepare and submit to parliament a specific legislation to deal with the phenomenon of vigilantism and provide sanctions against its occurrence.
