The Apostle General of the Royal House Chapel International, Reverend Sam Korankye Ankrah, has indicated that activities of vigilante groups in Ghana is a blot on Ghana’s democracy.

According to him, it is a weakness that the government must empower the security agencies to solve.

There have been about 20 pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) vigilante attacks since the party won power in the December 2016 elections.

The situation has been festering, despite calls on the President for the law enforcement agencies to act.

Speaking during the North Kaneshie Assemblies of God event dubbed “Gathering of God’s Champions 2017” over the weekend, he said: “I am calling on church leadership, in particular the councils – the Catholic Secretariat, the Christian Council of Ghana, the Ghana Pentecostals and Charismatic Council – that this is the time that they must voice out the wrongs that are going on in the society.

“The situation where we have few radical individuals rampaging government institutions and ransacking the place, locking officers up, is a thing that we condemn with the strongest possible term that we have at our command.

“This is not democracy, this is weakness of democracy, it shows weakness in our law system and we want to ask the security system to rise up to the occasion and bring all such culprits to book.”

He added: “We are also adding our voice to the galamsey, the gold surface mining which has resulted in the destruction of our water bodies, farm lands etc.

“This, we also condemn, and we are asking the security agencies to be empowered by the government to make sure that arrests are done and all the culprits brought to book so that our landscapes will be peaceful, our water bodies will have peace, our farm lands will have peace.

“There are other areas that require attention, the area of corruption, the area of people breaking the law and getting away without being punished. All these things are very worrisome.”
