Management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi has expressed its readiness to admit about 23,000 Senior High school graduates in the 2020-21 academic year.

The university, after realizing high enrollment of students as a results of government’s free education polity, has built a number of Storey building classrooms to ensure no Free SHS policy graduate is left out during admissions.

Many critics of the government including former president John Dramiani Mahama continue to describe the free SHS education as a rush policy. This is because Senior High schools across the country lack infrastructure facilities putting students admitted under the policy at risk as a result of congestion.

In views of the development, management of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has built a number of huge classrooms infrastructural facilities to facilitate admission of over 23,000 expected SHS graduates under the free education as against last academic year’s enrollment of 12,000.

The facilities built with the University’s internal generated funds and GET-fund are expected to increase after the university’s arrangement with the government for financial support is finalised.

So far about 80 percent of the total project is complete with the installation of electrical materials while roads, lorry parks and walk-ways have also been fixed for use.

The University has also engaged private estate developers to build safe hostel facilities for the university to accommodate shortfalls expected in the 2020-21 academic year.
