We will deal with election violence – GAF

The Ghana Armed Forces has announced its readiness to deal with any form of violence that erupts in the upcoming December 7 polls.

According to the Commanding Officer of the First Infantary Batallion of the First Garrison of the Ghana Armed Forces, Lieutenant Colonel Albert Ogaja, even though the Military High Command do not anticipate any serious violence in this year’s election, however, should it occur, the Military is ready to deal with it to secure the peace of the country.

“We don’t expect any violence at all, but if there should be any violence, we are ready and willing to deal with it so that we can have peaceful elections .You can be rest assured that you have our full support and that we will be ready to sacrifice all that we have to ensure peaceful election”.

Lieutenant Colonel Ogaja said this during a peace walk by the security services in Koforidua, the Eastern regional Capital on Saturday.

He stated that, the security service is prepared “to support the local Authorities and the Electoral Commission to have free, fair and peaceful election as part of our responsibility to sacrifice our time, our energy and sacrifice our comfort so that the larger population can enjoy peace and security during this election”.

The Eastern regional Minister, Mavis Ama Frimpong urged the security services to continue to deliver their duties professionally to ensure peaceful polls.

She assured that the Eastern region will continue to remain peaceful before, during and after the December election.
