We will retaliate if Police fails to arrest NPP supporters - Eastern Region NDC

The Eastern Regional Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bismarck Tawiah Boateng has issued a 48 hour ultimatum to the Effiduase District police command to arrest supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), who allegedly attacked supporters of the NDC during a health walk in the constituency on Sunday else the Party will unleash its supporters to retaliate in equal measure.

At least seven supporters mostly NDC supporters sustained serious injuries during the clash while many recorded minor injuries.

At an emergency conference held on Sunday evening after the incident, the regional Chairman accused the NPP of hatching plan to intimidate supporters of the NDC in the region ahead of the December polls.

Mr Tawiah Boateng says,the party has tolerated enough of NPP hooliganism in the region which they are prepared to strike if the security agencies continue look on unconcern and fail to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators.

The Parliamentary candidate for new Juaben North constituency on the ticket of NDC, Haruna Apau-Wiredu accused the NPP for the clashes.

He said, the NPP supporters failed to heed to police directives to both parties as far as the walk was concerned by attacking some exhausted supporters of the NDC left behind at Asokore community center area with stones, and clubs which sparked reaction the teeming supporters.

The Effiduase District Police Command is expected to make arrest soon as police intensify search for the perpetrators.

At least 4 cars were smashed during the scuffle.

The incident occurred during a campaign health walk organized separately by both political parties on Sunday. Those with serious were rushed tothe st joseph’s hospital where they were treated and discharged.

Both parties campaign walk were led by their Parliamentary candidates, Nana Adjei Boteng of NPP and Haruna Apau Wiredu of NDC

Nana Adjei Boateng faulted the police for the clashes.
