Hajia Samira Bawumia, wife of the Vice President, has put up a strong defense for President Akufo-Addo’s free SHS policy, wondering where she herself would have been without the benefit of an education, MyNewsGH.com has filed.

Referencing her ‘Fulani and Zongo’ background, she told the men and women of Wenchi to take advantage of President Akufo-Addo’s Free SHS programme and make sure their children are prepared for the future.

The second lady made the statement in an address when she paid a working visit to Wenchi Zango Chiefs.

“I am happy to be here. It is Zongo I come from. I am a Fulani but I was born in Zongo. So when I look here it is my people and when I look there it is my people. If not for education, me, I won’t be standing here today. It is not because I was more intelligent than my contemporaries, it is rather the opportunities education gave me.” She said as she switched from Twi to Hausa trying to explain to the women of Wenchi how they can benefit from Akufo-Addo’s flagship education package.

She urged the parents to take advantage of Akufo-Addo’s free SHS program and ensure their children get full education because there is space for them at the top too irrespective of where they come from.

Mrs Bawumia said gradually, the full impact of Akufo-Addo’s government will reach everyone.

“As for the work we are doing a lot, and we are reducing poverty. Small, small it will reach everybody. The work we are doing, we don’t want only Accra people to get the benefits. That’s why we brought free education so that everybody will get a share of Ghana’s resources” she explained.

“We in the NPP have said we will not wait for elections to come before we come to greet you again. Because you sent us to go and work for you. 2016 we came to you in the campaign and told you of our vision that all of us our leader who became president by God’s grace and your support His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo will deliver. You agreed and you helped us, prayed for us and voted for us and we won. We thank you. After leaving, we went to work. It has become necessary to come back and tell you what we have done so far so that you can be updated.

She added further:

“But before I update you, I want you to hear this: we want to build a storey building and gave it to a contractor to build a foundation and ground floor. He’s done and we saw that he built it anyhow so we are bringing a new guy to build. The new guy realized that the old building was weak. If he is a good person, he will restart the foundation and the first floor because he knows that if he simply comes to continue on that weak foundation, the structure will collapse one day. So president Akufo-Addo is doing what will benefit us today and our children’s children will also benefit”
