An aspiring assembly woman for the Mamfe-West and South Electoral area in the Akuapem North Municipality, Mrs Joyce Wood has called on fellow women to support females contesting in the upcoming district and unit committee elections to ensure more women in the assemblies.

She said, “It’s high time that women stood up for their fellow women so that with a common front, more women would win the upcoming elections to whip up their interest in political positions.”

Speaking in an interview with the GNA on its Women’s profile, to project women contesting the upcoming district and unit committee elections in Koforidua, Mrs Wood noted that, “the terrain was not favourable for women, and so women have to show their full support for other women contesting.”

Mrs Wood noted that, many women, despite the fact that they were contesting against their male counterparts, could win if all women in their respective areas rallied behind them and urged the public to give women the chance by voting massively for them on Election Day.

She said women contesting the elections are confronted with several issues, including home management and financial constraints and urged the men counterparts “to give way for women to also prove their mettle in contributing to national development, as elected representatives.”

Mrs Wood, who is the incumbent and seeking a third term, is battling it out with two other men in the electoral area.
