The District Chief Executive, (DCE) for Builsa South, Mrs Elizabeth Jane Afiuc, on Thursday cautioned all Assembly Members to discourage partisan politics in the assembly.
The DCE asked them to see themselves as development partners, and work collectively to advance the interests of the assembly, saying that, the recent negative politicking being portrayed by some Assembly Members in the assembly had helped to divide the house, an issue she complained, had not been healthy to the decision making of the assembly.
She appealed to the new Assembly members to help reverse the trend to pave way for the accelerated development of the District.
Mrs Afiuc said this when she met with the new Assembly members at Fumbisi, the district capital.
According to her, it was incumbent upon the Assembly Members of the district to endeavour to work together in peace and unity to devise strategies to mobilize revenue for the development of the district, which was lagging behind in terms of development.
‘’I want to use this occasion to entreat the hard working Assembly members, especially the elected ones, to work relentlessly and devise strategies to enhance revenue collection in your respective Electoral Areas to complement Central government’s efforts of massing up developmental projects for the assembly’’, she noted.
On sanitation issues in the district, Mrs Afiuc pledged her outfit’s commitment to working tirelessly to arrest the phenomenon and charged the Assembly Members, traditional authorities and other opinion leaders to lead the crusade against indiscriminate dumping and littering.
‘’All responsible people of this district have to step up efforts to reduce the high rate of insanitary activities since the canker is taking a steep toll on people’s lives’’.
The DCE, who praised the government for making enormous strides in economic growth across the country, stressed that, the Builsa South district had benefited a lot from the pro-poor initiatives, including the rural electrification projects, construction of CHPS compounds, provision of portable drinking water, educational facilities, dugouts and dams among others.
Mr Richard Awombadek Ajuik, the new Presiding Member, pledged to forge unity in the assembly and called on the Members to make peace their watchword since that would enable them to work together to bring development to the district.
He reiterated the need for the Assembly Members to put party politics aside and throw their weight behind him to steer the affairs of the house.
Speaking on his policies, the Presiding Member said he was poised to overhaul the much criticized internal wrangling in the assembly, which, according to him, was attributable to the partisan politics being played by the Assembly Members during assembly sessions.
