STMA fails to elect PM after six times of voting

The Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly has failed at the sixth attempt to elect a Presiding Member to facilitate the business of the Assembly.

At the sixth elections supervised by officials of the Western Regional Electoral Commission, Mr. John Davis, an elected Assembly Member for Anaji polled 33, whilst Mr. Yusif Gyamson, government appointee had 37 of the votes cast.

Since the inauguration of the Assembly some weeks back, numerous attempts to elect a leader has proven futile, as none of the two contestants was ready to throw in the towel for the other.

The Assembly was yet to set a new date for fresh elections, and there could be possible change of the two contestants for fresh candidates in the next round of voting.

Mr. Alfred Ekow Gyan, Deputy Western Regional Minister, encouraged the members to come to agreement to elect a leader to run the Assembly.

The delay in choosing a Presiding Member could have a toll in the administration of the Assembly.
