The running mate of the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) and Executive Director of Mentoring Women Ghana (MWG), Brigitte Dzogbenuku has denied being a member of ‘Occupy Ghana’ a pressure movement in the country.

Speaking on Kessben Fm’s morning show ‘Maakye’, madam Brigitte narrated how she got caught up in one of their demonstrations. She speaks to Omanhene Yaw Adu Boakye on Kessben fm.

Are you a member of OccupyGhana

I used to complain a lot on Facebook because I always had issues disturbing my mind and thanks to social media, the story was carried away. So one day at home i heard the Group was going on a peaceful demonstration and i decided to join.

While I was contemplating on whether or not to join them, I heard on radio that loads of people were present at the demonstration mostly the middle class.

Fortunately or unfortunately i didn’t have light and my taps were not running. so I was moved by the these 2 facts and quickly joined them.

When I got there, one radio station ‘name withheld’ approached me and said to me “Brigitte you have been addressing your concerns on social media, now this is the time, speak to us”. I spoke to them about issues weighing me down with regards to the economy.

Occupy isn’t a political party but a group of aggrieved people who come together to fight for a common good. Even police officers in uniform said to me “we would love to join you but for our uniform” so you could see that it was far from politics.

Did government heed to your grievances

Well! Whether or not government listened to us or not i believe the impact was made. For a nations middle class to demonstrate, its means so much.

Did that put you in the limelight of politics?

Oh yes! It did… my presence at the demonstration really helped and I think that was the beginning of my political career.

People even tag me as the face of ‘Occupy Ghana’. Going forward my involvement in that particular demo has helped me a lot though i was back lashed. I see it as a step in the right direction.

Madam Brigitte Dzogbenuku says she is all out to help Dr. Nduom to contest the rest of the political parties i the 2016 elections.
