According the a 2015 World Bank report, 50% of Ghanaians are 21 years or less.According to Mundi, there are about 5million Ghanaians between the ages of 15-24; roughly 500,000 people in each of the 10 age categories in this class. This also means that there are roughly 2million Ghanaians between ages 18 to 21. Add this number to the other half of the national population of 26 million.
The implication of this is that Universal Adult Suffrage population of Ghana - those eligible to vote - is between 15M to 16M! Out of this number, even if 90% registers to vote, we should have a register of only 14M!
On election day, if we get 10 million voters in a country where voting is not compulsory, we're still over 71% in voter participation which is not bad.

First, I think the EC 49% voter turnout was wrong. We are told that we have 15.1 million voters and of the 210 constituencies the EC has verified and being reported by the media, if we add all the candidates numbers, we have close to 7.7 million votes so far without even the spoilt votes so far which is over 150,000 votes. If you just add these numbers, we are over 50% of the registered voters with still 65 constituencies to come in, that is 24% of the votes is still out there to count. Folks, if you think I am wrong, wait after all the votes have been counted at the end and you will see that the voter turnout was a little over 70%.
Secondly, our voter register is over bloated. I have said it many times that a country with a population of 26 million cannot have over 15 million registered voters. First, not all qualified voters registered.
I have been monitoring the votes and votes from the Volta region has reduced significantly. One MP from Ho, Mr Kpodo explained that their voters residing in Ashiaman and other areas in Accra did not get buses to transport them to Ho, give me a break.
In Fiifi Kwetey Ketu South constituency which include Aflao the border town has over 140,000 voters, the biggest constituency in Ghana in terms of registered voters and Fiifi promised to deliver over 80,000 votes for Mahama. Only about 60,000 votes were cast in this constituency because most of the names were either ghost names or Togolese names. There are not that many people in that constituency let alone have that many registered voters.

I think the voter turnout was encouraging and could even be said to be very good.The main issue here is that because of an over bloated voter's register the people who voted as compared to those on the register appeared a smaller percentage. I think the election petition played a key role in this election as people were vigilant and prevented as defined by General Mosquito from stuffing ballot boxes with ballots.But for the vigilance you would of cause had seen more votes or ballots that would have represented very good voter turnout. Its good to be patient and tolerant.It is God who makes people Leaders and it has come to pass. The battle is the Lord's. JM came with incumbency but Nana came with the word of the Lord and struck the GIANT down and his carcass has been eaten by the birds in the air (the votes of Ghanaians)God has won and Ghana wins

My rough calculation is that (based on the figure she has quoted) and the numbers on Ghanaweb, is that the total of approx 10.08m votes will have voted across the 275 constituencies. Ghanaweb currently at 253 constituencies has a total of approx 9.5m so another 600,000 votes from the remaining 22 constituencies....sounds reasonable. Won’t change the results...so no miscalculations by the EC, please.
Long story short, the voter turn should be around 66%. Considering the register is likely bloated with false names I would say this has shown how EAGER Ghanaians have been to express their democratic right.
2016 USA election 58% of registered voters went to the polls, EU referendum in UK was 72%.....remember their registers are not likely to be as tainted as Ghana..... no thanks to EC. So it is NOT DISSAPOINTING AT ALL.
