No, Ghana must not have its own carrier !
We have seen it all through the years since independence, that our own national carrier does not make profit, because of the high level of corruption in the veins of Ghanaians.
With Ghana placing 70th on the Transparency international corruption index,it will rather be better to develop our airports to international standards and rake monies from airport taxes than to set up an airline which will rather be operating loses and draining our national coffers.

Its not only the plunder of Akan wealth that these pepeni/ayigbe criminals practiced but also the undeclared warfare against Akans. Soon the eyes of the deliberately blind will be forced open and recognize never again can we allow this to happen and the only insurance is to see for full and complete Independence of the Akan nation .True that crime and corruption started and ended at the presidency and now they have bribed Bawumia so he advocates for a slower process of justice , First they set up the office of investigation in December and by the time they raise an indictment donkey years will pass. Never trust these pepeni/ayigbe criminals and their power of persuasions over these northerners and other traitors of frail moral fiber. The basis of industrialisation and to enter the post industrial era is the aquisition of railway technology and industry any proposal that falls short of this will only create debt and cause the system to inefficient and unreliable . We hear that all kinds of brokers and jokers have arrived to mislead this govt particularly in this sector of governance with bribes and toxic ideas packaged in colorful wrappings . yes and we insist on justice for Atta Mills as murder of leaders and politicians is the trademark of the criminal mafia ndc pepeni/ayigbe conspiracy. If this is not done this will remain a solution or option for any group of criminals no matter their justification or agendas.JJ too should be made to answer for the murder of previous leaders too

I agree entirely with the aviation minister. The woes of the defunct Ghana airways was not in how profitable the airline business was. The collapse of the defunct Ghana airways was engineered by vested interests who would rather have the Ghana route to themselves.
Ghana is missing on millions of dollars and aviation expertise by not having its own airline. employment in the aviation sector alone use to contribute a lot to Ghana's economy but the airline was run aground by foreign airlines and a few naive but greedy Ghanaians who did not take the big picture into consideration.
Cecilia Dapaah must be warned that the same vested interests will try to stop her from creating a National airline for Ghana. It is a zero sum game. setting up a National airline will come in direct competition with those airlines who already fly the Ghana route. They will try all sorts of sabotaging tricks to stop the minister from achieving her objective of setting up a National airline. Even if the minister succeeds, they will plant incompetent people and throw spanners in the works to make sure the airline collapses so that they can continue to make huge profits on the Ghana route at the expense of Ghana's economic development.
They may even lobby the president to reshuffle Cecilia out of the way.
The neocolonialists would rather control all our resources and repatriate the profits to the West. like they are doing to our telecommunications industry. Ghanaians are essentially working their butts off and giving all their money to multinational telecommunications companies who have no interest in investing their profits in Ghana.
We need to empower our economy by given opportunity to Ghanaian-owned businesses for they will invest their profits in Ghana.
Ghana is at the mercy of the rest of the world. We shoot ourselves in the foot by making it easier for foreigners to do business in Ghana and make very hard for local businesses to thrive.
In the end, the foreign businesses simply jet out our wealth.
If we want the economy to grow, we need to grow local businesses who will keep profits in Ghana.

Can someone ask Cecilia Dapaah what went wrong the first time around and how she will ensure if we really buy into her idea of owning our own airline, we will not repeat the same mistakes? I am against the government owning certain types of businesses and transportation is one of them. Better to have a private company own it and Ghana have shares in the business.

I'm afraid, I don't share the envious optimism of this Minister designate. About four decades ago, there was an article in the New York Times, I think, which was headlined, "How NOT to run an airline". The airline which was the subject of the article, was Ghana Airways. I am afraid all these years later, the lack if discipline, and tendency to graft and corruption and cronyism that is part of the Ghanaian mindset, is still with us. No matter how many studies PriceWaterhouse et al, and others in the consultancy world come up with, until such time that Ghana develops better national ethics and a deep sense of responsibility, various business ventures will flounder. As I write this, we hear about the national government of the Republic of Ghana, owing hundreds of billions of cedis to the Electricity Company of Ghana, for power which has been used and continues to be used without being paid for. One of the problems the old Ghana Airways had, was government officials using the airline as a private shuttle for themselves and for their girlfriends, without paying the fares. Today, the headlines everywhere screams about NDC government officials and the wanton and cavalier attitude towards spending government money and stealing. The attitude has not changed. No matter how many passengers British Airways carries to and from Ghana, a competing airline will not survive if a new Ghana airline does not have PAYING passengers. Timely departures and arrivals, we're also a problem for the old Ghana Airways. One should not go into business just to impress other people. It takes discipline and cost control. The economic environment in 2017 is even more brutal than it was in the 1970s. Better capitalized with better world wide marketing, such as PanAm and SwissAir have folded. Competition is stiff. Ghana should be very very careful chasing this dream.

What state enterprise is doing well? Ghana cannot run anything especially an airline. Encourage the private sector to do so and take a cut for the government. Ghana Airways died because of cronyism and nepotism. They had one plane, 1400 employees at one time and only a fraction of the passengers were fee paying. First class was full of ministers and Ghanaian politicians and their girl friends. They basically run the airline down to bankruptcy. How will this be prevented or controlled?

Anyway There are countries with no Aviation Minister but have airlines.

There is no need of wasting our resources in that direction.
Politicians are wasting our money and resources. If this is the mindset of Akufo Addo's government then I can tell you they will fail. This is create and share appointment and not to solve problems.
Toilet tolls collection and things like these do not bring about development. Think about how we can make every household in Accra and Kumasi have central sewage system and continues flow of tap water. Public schools for JSS and SHS within every half a mile distance for communities.
Ministers must sit up and not to think about contracts awarding ventures only. God bless Ghana and it's people.

To the extent that they Coach expatriate Manager/s,the Tricks to do their will to the benefit of the worker. These were not isolated cases. Are you aware it got to a time,a Pilot (Ghana ni) on 6:30/7AM scheduled to West Coast reports to work at 9 - 9:30AM,to the annoyance of passengers; including myself. And an afternoon Flight from some of the West Coast destinations to Accra was "no go"( no Technical Fault) when they landed, but preferred to went to sleep with their concubines(excuse my word), to re-scheduled the Flight to following morning. This was regular and personally experienced. In New York City, do you knew that, the Ghana Airlines Staff responsible to load the Flight did the Job in the comfort of his Living Room!.That mean you take your luggage to his House. So,one can be sure that the Staff was using the National Airline to run his Private Freight Service! All the numerous former Ghana Airways workers and majority of their relatives in the Despora landed on a Free Flights, and heavily Subsidized Ticket, not to mention non Staff on govt protocol, etc etc, etc. Private Partnership is what should be encouraged and the way forward. Both, this Woman Minister designate and her Consultants don't know what they talked about!.She should research to contact former Gh Airways Staff or Black Star Shipping Lines to hear more of the reasons why National Airlines is not Feasible. And there's nothing as good management in this regard.B'cos, you can beat the Ghanaian when it comes to "ways and means" to benefit.Anyway.
