Ghana must join the knowledge economy of today and this can only be done by the mantra EDUCATION, EDUCATION, EDUCATION. PERIOD! In a world where the appetite for knowledge never ceases, it is imperative and incumbent upon the leaders of Ghana today to increase knowledge through education then like Benjamin Franklin said; "An investment in knowledge pays the best interest." for "Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today." Malcolm X then "Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family." as Kofi Annan once said, so for Ghana to incubate the best, creative and innovative brains towards a knowledge society we must invest heavily in education, vocational training and skill development through apprenticeship. We can only better manage our future of industrialization if we capacitate the present generation to meet squarely the challenges of the future.
The great Greek philosopher Aristotle once said; "The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet." So if Ghana wants to enjoy a sweet future then it is time to prepare for it in the long term. The answer is EDUCATION of our society.

For this one, I vehemently disagree with you and Pratt. What happens when the money is spent on education and they graduate and cannot find jobs? Parents must pay for their children's education for there is great joy in doing that which I think most parents know. There would obviously some who may not be able to afford educating their children, to them, they need to be scientifically identified and scholarships given to their children whether brilliant or not. But that scholarships must come from the tax payer like myself and not from the Heritage Fund.

@Tuamoy: Do you know that public education is free up to high school in the the West? It is also compulsory which means parents are sent to court and punished if they don't enroll their child in school. This is not about affordability because most folks in the West can afford their kids education but rather it ensures that every citizen has some basic education.
Education is vital for the growth and health of every nation. Understood, that there should be quality education but that can be achieved by teacher training, refresher courses etc.
Do you know that in the West you need at the very least a 1st degree and a course in education to teach even elementary/primary school? We have so many unemployed graduates who can be channeled into teaching by providing incentives.
Education develops the mind, creativity and promotes innovations which would lead to inventions, employment and economic growth. The powerful countries are not where they are today because of some blessing or natural resources they have, they are where they are today because they invested in education and their Human Resources.

Kwesi do you mean invest in the same 'MIS-EDUCATION' of ENSLAVED MINDS??
I will leave that for another day.
We as GHANAIANS must learn to train our minds to save for the future of our generations to come!!!
There are SEVERAL other means of generating funds for the free SHS, which in my opinion is long overdue.
Have we considered halting the galamsey by the Chinese and the Indians of our rich natural resources? ARE THEY GENERATING MONEY OR NOT? WHY THE INCREASE IN IT?
THINK OOOOO THINK!!! GHANAIANS!!!!!
The argument of using the Heritage fund is very pathetic, looking at our record as a nation and individuals, on saving nothing from the proceeds of our GOLD, DIAMOND, BAUXITE, COCOA etc. etc.till this very day! Unfortunately, we have nothing to show for but, depleted and contaminated rivers and lands which is never ending with the increase in galamsey by the Chinese and Indians, not forgetting the Europeans.
My questions are....who do we want to clean OUR mess when we are long gone? And with what? Do we expect OUR future generations to bear the costs of OUR STUPIDITY?? Kwesi....HELL NO!!!!
Pleeeeaaase!!!! It's about time we start thinking about OUR future and plan ahead, instead of continuing with OUR usual GHANAIAN SYNDROME of 'finish everything today and forget about tomorrow'............
This is the opportunity for the TWO USELESS parties to start THINKING!!!
GOD BLESS GHANA!

Now the problem here is transparency because hiding the actual component from the public breeds corruption.
Remember,Nigeria had this noble Policy in the past funded by oïl revenue but the end result was catastrophic because of corruption. We have to be on guard against corruption that's why NPP must disclose the source of funding in détails right now.Thank you.

That's a great contribution. Normally I don't agree with Kwesi Pratt. But his view on this is sensible. The best thing you can give somebody is education. Nobody can take it away. I have been watching the ministers on the internet as they appear on the appointments committee in parliament. Most of them came from humble backgrounds. They would start with " I attended primary school at .... and went to middle school at .... and sat for the Common Entrance " Nobody said " I went to International school" which was for rich people. Now because of education, they are the leaders of our country. So we should spend on education and the country will benefit.
