Winston Mills, Deputy Convener of Eastern Forum Network, a pro-NDC pressure group in the Eastern Region, has said Koku Anyidoho, the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), must apologise to Victor Smith, Ghana’s former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom for describing him as "coward" and a "useless" man.

Mr. Anyidoho verbally attacked Mr. Smith after the latter reportedly said that it will be unfair on the part of the leadership of the NDC to punish former Attorney General Martin Amidu over his comments against the NDC because he was not the only person who has made disparaging comments about the party. Mr. Smith said former President Jerry John Rawlings should also be sanctioned for the same offence.

But Koku Anyidoho in a rebuttal said: “... So Victor Smith, if he is man enough and brave, he can petition the party against Rawlings at the headquarters.

“Victor Smith should not sit on the touchline and behave like a useless man. If he is man enough, he should jump into the arena and join the fight and stop talking from the talking touchline. I am not afraid of him. Every time you sit on the touchline and you want to indict the National Executives.”

But reacting to Mr. Anyidoho's comments in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom on Accra 100.5FM on Wednesday, August 16, Winston Mills said: “These comments are distasteful and improper, they are unfounded. On what basis will you say Mr. Smith is a coward?

“A party executive talking like this, describing a former UK high Commissioner as useless? That is unacceptable. If he doesn’t know we are telling him that Mr. Smith’s achievements in the NDC are unparalleled.

“Mr. Smith was the only one who spoke against the choice of Amissah Arthur as running mate. We all knew Amissah-Arthur was a fine economist but was not a political material to win elections for us but people in the party who knew this kept quiet. It was only Mr. Smith who spoke out. Is this person a coward? We are calling on Koku Anyidoho to do the honorable thing and apologise to him.”
