It was an emotional speech at the extraordinary delegates congress of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) when the president of the republic, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo expressed his fondness late mother.

In an extensive and rather emotional opening, the president took time off his speech to remember what he explained to be the momentous contribution his mother had in his life.

Adeline Sylvia Eugenia Ama Yeboakua Akufo-Addo (Nee Ofori-Atta) was born on December 17, 1917, to Nana Ofori-Atta I, Omanhene of Akyem Abuakwa and Madam Agnes Akosua Dodua of the Okyeame Boafo Oyoko family of Abomosu.

In 1970 she became the first lady when her husband, Edward Akufo-Addo was president of Ghana. On Sunday, March 21, 2004, she was taken ill and rushed to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, where she died in her sleep.

She was 87.

Meanwhile, the NPP extraordinary delegates conference has seen about 6000 delegates converge to amend portions of the NPP constitution.
