CPP, PNC, PPP and GCPP are all nkrumahist parties
The United Nkrumahist Front, a pressure group, on Friday repeated calls on the need for the leadership of the four Nkrumahist political parties in the country to unite to enhance their fortunes in Election 2020.
According to the group, until the Nkrumahist political parties; Convention People’s Party (CPP), People’s National Convention (PNC), Progressive People’s Party (PPP) and the Great Consolidated People’s Party (GCPP) come together, there was no way each of the parties could make significant impact in the general election.
Alhaji Mustapha Adams, the Acting Chairman of the Front, which believes in the ideologies and philosophies of Ghana’s first President Dr Kwame Nkrumah made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at New-Dormaa in the Sunyani Municipality.
He observed that the numerical strength of the Nkrumahist family had declined drastically in the past years because of the decision taken by the leaderships of the four political parties to separate and remain autonomous.
Alhaji Adams, who is also the Brong-Ahafo Regional First Vice Chairman of the CPP, underscored the importance for the individual Nkrumahists to endeavour to bury their personal political ambitions, come together and fight for a common interest of the Nkrumahist’s spirit of nationalism and patriotism. He indicated that a merger of the CPP, PNC, PPP and GCPP was urgently required to create a third force on Ghana’s political landscape and also repeat the 1979 history in Election 2020 as well.
Mr. Benjamin Atta Ricco, the Acting Organiser of the Front, and Brong-Ahafo Regional Organiser of PNC noted that posterity would not spare the leadership of the four political parties if they failed to unite and come under one umbrella. He said the current separation and disunity that existed among the parties had gradually killed the spirit of the Nkrumahist, saying many of the younger generations had not become knowledgeable in its ideals and philosophies.
Mr Isaac Osei, the Sunyani West Constituency Secretary of the PPP and the Acting Secretary of the Front, pleaded not only with the leaderships of the four political parties, but supporters in general to unite, forge ahead, identify and find lasting solutions to challenges impeding the efforts for the parties to come together.
He said the Election 2020 had created an opportune time for the four political parties to come together, organise one congress and elect national executives and a flagbearer to lead and contest the general election.
“With unity we can prepare and sell a good presidential candidate who can make meaningful inroads in Election 2020”, said Mr. Felix Dery, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Treasurer of the GCPP and the Acting First Vice Chairman of the Front.
Mr. Emmanuel Oduro, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Organiser of the PPP and the Acting Treasurer of the group, regretted that the country had lost the spirit of patriotism and selflessness because successive governments had buried the ideology of Dr Nkrumah.
He therefore appealed to the Nkrumahist political parties to merge and to strive hard to resurrect such principles and visions of Dr Nkrumah to reduce corruption and facilitate accelerated national development.
