Political science lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba, Dr. Isaac Brako, has suggested that the unity walk being organized by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), is not serving the purpose it was planned for.

The unity walk in his opinion is rather dividing the party instead of uniting it. In the 455-page defeat committee chair, report Prof. Botchwey pressed the NDC leadership to consider the peace-making and healing tour as "extremely important".

This is because it will create the "necessary conditions for any serious work that needs to be done" in restructuring the party, he said. The report, christened: “Listening to the Grassroots”, further recommended to the party to restore and strengthen the capacity and effectiveness of its organs at the branch level, since they were effective tools for unity and cohesion within the party.

But the lecturer said, although the Kwesi Botchwey committee recommended that, the party should embark on such an activity, it failed to give specific guidelines on how it should be done.

This has allowed former President John Dramani Mahama to take advantage of the unity walk to propagate his political agenda, he opined. ‘’The committee failed to set out guidelines for the peace tour and so a gentleman has taken advantage of the walk to be talking to people,’’ he added.

Dr. Brako stressed that, ‘’I do not see the party uniting through the unity walks. It would have been proper for them to adopt a different approach than what they are doing now,’’ he concluded.
