New entrant into the presidential race for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Nurudeen Iddrisu has disclosed that he has the full support of his uncle Mahama Iddrisu and his wife former Attorney General and Minister of Justice Betty Mould Iddrisu.

Answering a question on whether the 1st national vice chair of the NDC supports his presidential ambition, Iddrisu quipped “…Absolutely, I have their [Betty Mould-Iddrisu and Mahama Iddrisu] full support and not only them, I have the support of former President Rawlings as well.”

Iddrisu, a native of Wa, the Upper West regional capital added that he is confident of defeating former President John Mahama, Joshua Alabi and others who are seeking to lead the party ahead of the 2020 presidential elections.

The former Banker told host of Morning Starr Francis Abban on Monday that the NDC needs a younger candidate with fresh ideas to move the nation forward.

According to him, he has held some consultations with elders and regional executives of the party to inform them of his intention to lead the NDC in the 2020 general elections.

He has also visited all the constituencies in the Upper West region and interacted with the executives, urging them to unite the ranks of the party and position it to win back power in the 2020 elections.

The NDC activist who announced his intention in December last year said his plan is to empower the youth and provide jobs.

“We have big challenges in Ghana and I want to become a President to address all of them…Ghanaians are mostly not empowered and as a result, many love to pull each other down. I will make sure that becomes a thing of the past.

“The NDC in recent times, haven’t empowered the grassroots, they haven’t empowered the business community among others. As we speak, the NDC is unable the pay its utility bills because we weren’t empowered.”

The former Banker added that “for the last six months, I’ve been doing door to door. I am making my intentions clear to the people at the grassroots.”
