Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama
Pressure continues to mount on the son of former Vice President, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama to contest the Yendi Constituency seat in the Northern Region on the ticket of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
A group which is leading the crusade says their request became imperative following an announcement by the incumbent, Mohammed Habib Tijani, to bow out of Parliament after the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections.
The group, Friends of Farouk Aliu Mahama (FOFAM), is pointing to their ideal man, Alhaji Farouk to step into the shoes of the incumbent arguing he stands tall coupled with his numerous contributions to the development of the area outside politics as an added advantage.
Though Alhaji Mahama is yet to officially make any public pronouncement on whether or not he will take up the challenge, the youth and some party council of elders have in a statement enumerated numerous interventions embarked on by him portraying him as the obvious choice and therefore need not disappoint them.
FOFAM in a statement signed by its scribe, says Alhaji Farouk Mahama has made a personal financial commitment for the running of the NPP in Yendi.
“The constituency office receives GH¢2000 monthly from him to administer the party in the constituency and all Electoral Areas of the party receive GH¢ 2000 from him to solidify the base of the party in the constituency” “Secondly as part of helping the people to be informed and educated about issues that hinge on the development and the betterment of the people, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama donated GH¢20,000 to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC)to open a substation for the people of Yendi.
Thirdly, Alhaji Farouk intervened when the students of the Yendi Senior High School had issues with water supply to the school. Knowing the importance of education and how the absence of good drinking water can affect the students in their studies, he donated cash support of GH¢10,000 to the Ghana Water Company in Yendi to help solve the water problem in the school. This gesture received huge commendation from the staff and students of the Yendi Secondary School”, a statement from the group revealed.
As part of a strategy to help create employment for the Women of Yendi, they disclosed that Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama supported the training of women of the area in soap making to offer them employment in soap making to serve as a source of income for the people.
“The Women of Yendi were grateful for this support and their unending prayers for the man Farouk Aliu Mahama still continues.
The youth of Yendi also received various sports materials from Farouk Aliu Mahama who believes that sports amongst the youth can promote unity and development. This the youth says was very thoughtful of a man who cares for peace and progress of the Yendi constituency and thinks that such a person when made their Member of Parliament would do even more for them.
The NPP in Yendi has received lots of party paraphernalia from Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama to create visibility and excitement in the area and this has been described as unprecedented by party youth and elders in Yendi”, it concluded.
