A leading aspirant in the NDC’s upcoming flagbearership race, Prof. Joshua Alabi, is promising to make President Akufo-Addo a one-term president by pushing him out of office in 2020 if the NDC gives him the nod to lead the party into election 2020.

Speaking to delegates at Abiriw in the Eastern Region, the former UPSA Vice Chancellor said he was keen on returning power to the grassroots of the NDC and making them(the grassroots) the wheels on which the party’s 2020 election would run.

He promised to make the sitting president of the land, Nana Akufo-Addo, a one-term president if elevated to the position of flagbearer of the NDC citing the several difficulties Ghanaians are reeling under due to the NPP’s poor governance.

“If you promote me as your flagbearer, by the grace of God I will give President Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo one term,” he said to a loud applause. Prof Alabi added that he will not stop at making Akufo-Addo a one-term president but also ensure that the NDC secures a second four-year-term of governance under his leadership.

He said, “after I give him one term, by the grace of God I will not be president for only one term. I will be President of the Republic of Ghana for two terms.”

Prof. Joshua Alabi is one of 13 candidates who have expressed the desire to lead the largest opposition party in the country into election 2020 with the view to winning power from the NPP. He’s seen as one of the most likely candidates to win the contest although former President John Mahama is still considered a favorite for many.

Some party stalwarts have preached against the second coming of the former President citing several issues of alleged corruption, nepotism and a general inability of the former first gentleman of the land to bring about the change needed in the party and in the country as a whole – a situation some believe makes the former UPSA Vice Chancellor the best possible candidate for the NDC ahead of election 2020.
