Ghanaian charity to launch premier fine-art pictorial book Ghana: A portrait

London, England – 13th Nov, 2006 The Nubuke Foundation cordially invites members of the press to the launch of the book “Ghana: A Portrait”, published to coincide with Ghana’s golden jubilee in March 2007. In consideration of the festivities planned in London and Accra, two launches have been scheduled:

• London, 28th November 2006 @7.00pm, Charity lecture and book launch, Royal Geographical Society, 1 Kensington Gore. London SW7 2AR

• Accra, 12th December 2006 @ 7.00pm, Book launch, Goethe Institute, 30 Kakramadu Road, nr NAFTI, Cantonments, Accra.

Ghana: A Portrait is a pictorial summary of Ghana, resulting from many months travelling around every part of the country. From Elubo to Aflao, and Lawra to Bawku, no region goes unvisited. The journey begins on the coast, with the modernity of the capital, Accra, the fishing villages and beach resorts, forest reserves and the historical monuments of the Slave Trade. Passing through the gold mines of Ashanti and forested mountains of the Volta, it ends in the dry north with thirteenth century mud and stick mosques and the ecological marvels of Mole National Park.

Including festivals, landscapes, wildlife, people, architecture, and detailed textures, this book is literally a portrait of the nation; an artists view of Ghana around its Golden Jubilee.

Mr Tutu Agyare, a board member of the foundation says “This is a book which captures the essence of this country as it comes up to its 50th birthday. It will hopefully encourage Ghanaians and friends of Ghana to travel the length and breadth of the country searching out the cultural treasures represented in the book”

Renowned for his painterly eye, Max Milligan has limited edition photographic prints in private and corporate art collections worldwide. A proponent of ‘straight’ photography, he avoids the use of filters, flash and any kind of subsequent manipulation of the image.
