Adentan riots: We did a good job; just one injury recorded – Police

The Ghana Police Service has said that law enforcement personnel deployed to control the Adentan riots on Thursday, 8 November, adopted the appropriate measures in controlling the violent crowd, adding that only one person got injured during the melee.

In a statement assuring the residents of the area of their safety following the rising spate of carnage on the Adentan-Madina highway, the Director-General of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) David Eklu, said on Friday, 9 November 2018 that: “Preliminary investigations into yesterday’s rioting show that the police employed the appropriate riot control methods. However, in the process, a boy of 14 years was injured and was treated and discharged at the Nyaho Clinic in Accra. There is no record of any other injuries related to the riot control”.

The release added that: “The police have since increased its presence in the area to ensure the safety of residents and road users. Motorists on that stretch of road are also urged to exercise the utmost caution to preserve lives”.

The spontaneous riots started around 3:30 pm on Thursday after a first-year female student of the West Africa Secondary School (WASS) was knocked down by a vehicle and died instantly.

The driver who knocked down the student has been arrested and placed in police custody.



The police urged individuals who have images or videos related to the riots and its control, to send copies to the WhatsApp number 020-663-9121.
