The Agogo District Police Commander, ASP Samuel Azagu, has been transferred after the latest Fulani herdsmen attack on Monday, during which three soldiers and a police officer were shot in an exchange of gunfire with the herdsmen.

The District Chief Executive of Asante Akyem, Oti Boateng confirmed the transfer after a District Security Council (DISEC) meeting on Tuesday.

This website has information that the commander has been transferred to Fomena District Police Command.

MP for Asante Akyem North Lawyer Andy Appiah Kubi accused the Commander of being compromised by the herdsmen and cattle owners and is allegedly the force behind the apparent impunity by the herdsmen.

Speaking on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM, the Member of Parliament for the Asante Akyem North, Andy Appiah Kubi said so long as the Police Commander remains in the area, the fight against the Fulani menace will never be won.

“Per the allegations that has come to my notice, I feel if we don’t transfer the Police Commander, the security challenge vis a vis the threats posed by the nomadic herdsmen will still persist,” he told host Fiifi Banson.

His concern follows the latest mayhem reportedly caused by fulani herdsmen in Agogo.

Three soldiers and a police officer, who are part of a task-force set up to evict nomadic herdsmen in the Asante Akyem North District of the Ashanti Region, were wounded in Monday’s shooting incident.

According to Police in the area, an unknown assailant laid ambush and shot at the security personnel, who were in the bush as part of measures to evict the nomadic herdsmen and their cattle.

The four are said to be responding to treatment at the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital.

Mr Appiah Kubi told Kasapa 102.5 FM that the Police Commander has been compromised and hence unable to trigger any effective action against the herdsmen.

“We have all the evidence against him of his suspicious dealings with the herdsmen and we will tender it today as we meet the Regional Commander, REGSEC over the issue.

Locals of the area insists the herdsmen have outlived their welcome and there is no way they can expect to enjoy the proverbial Ghanaian hospitality.
