Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Bongo, in the Upper East Region, Edward Bawa claims the immediate past Inpsector General of Police (IGP) John Kudalor was pressured by the Akufo Addo led-government to go on retirement.

Mr Kudalor on Wednesday visited the Flagstaff House to formally bid President Akufo-Addo farewell. It was thought that he was proceeding on leave based on his own volition.

But speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo show on Thursday, January 26, Edward Bawa who’s also the former Communication Consultant at the Ministry of Energy stated that his information is that the circumstance leading to the exit of the former police boss is not what has been put into the public domain.

“People were talking and commending former IGP Kudalor for how he himself engaged President Akufo-Addo at the Flagstaff House to formally inform him that he[IGP] was proceeding on retirement. But for your information, the former IGP didn’t proceed on retirement on his own volition, he was asked by the government to step aside and make way for the Acting IGP, COP Asante Apeatu to be appointed. That is what happened.”

Mr. Kudalor was appointed by former President, John Dramani Mahama to the position in an acting capacity in November 2015 and was later confirmed IGP in February 2016.
