Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a leading member of the governing New Patriotic Party has asserted that the victory of Akufo-Addo in 2016 general elections was timely and necessary to put a stop to the reckless dissipation of limited state resources by the Mahama government, ABC News can report.

Gabby Otchere-Darko avers that the NDC, under Mahama, embarked on a looting spree, amassing for themselves wealth, through illegitimate and corrupt means, at the expense of the State.

This situation, he observed, has been reversed since the election of President Akufo-Addo in 2016, who defeated now candidate Mahama in humiliating fashion by close to a million votes.

Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko’s comments follow suggestions made by Former President Mahama and Alex Mould, rumoured to be his potential Vice Presidential candidate, that the Akufo-Addo government is engaging in ‘State capture.’

They claim that the governing New Patriotic Party has taken advantage of the power they have to protect their parochial interest and provided avenues for few individuals to benefit from the State.

“Let me emphasise that, all these shady happenings were avoidable if the right decisions, with the future development of Ghana in mind, were taken, and not parochial decisions that reflect the sad and worsening situation of state capture that we are experiencing under Akufo-Addo,” the post read further Former President Mahama is reported to have said, ABC News can report.

However, rubbishing the claims of the two NDC members, the private legal practitioner questioned their appreciation of the concept of ‘State capture’ noting that the allegation, if even applied, will only go to highlight the relevance of Akufo-Addo’s victory in 2016.

“Mahama, Alex Mould and co have found and borrowed a new phrase from South Africa: “state capture.” I am not sure that they fully understand it otherwise they would not use it. Unless of course, they are using it liberally because by their definition they are referring to the NPP electorally capturing and freeing the state from the promoters of “create, loot and share,” in the famous words of Ghana’s Supreme Court” the NPP stalwart wrote in a tweet.
