The Atiwa East District Assembly has distributed over 3,000 bamboo seedlings to farmers for improved production to feed a proposed Bamboo Factory to be established under the 'One District, One Factory' (1D1F) initiative.

The District is collaborating with INBAR to undertake the bamboo project aimed at stimulating mass production of raw materials for the planned factory in the area.

Apart from distributing free bamboo seedlings to the local farmers by the Department of Agriculture, the Atiwa East District Assembly has also trained 30 farmers in bamboo production and management.

Mr Kwabena Panyin Nkansah, the Atiwa East District Chief Executive (DCE) who disclosed this at the last farmers Day celebration at Kadewaso in the District, commended farmers for their hard work.

He encouraged farmers to take opportunity of the agriculture interventions introduced by the government to expand their farms and better their standard of living.

Some of the interventions highlighted included; 'Planting for Food and Jobs’ (PFJ), 'Planting for Export and Rural Development' (PERD) and the 'Rearing for Food and Jobs' (RFJ) programmes.

A total of 4,397 farmers benefitted under the PFJ and were supplied maize, rice, cucumber, cabbage, tomatoes, onions and pepper seeds.

The DCE expressed satisfaction at the number of farmers that benefitted from the government's intervention programmes.
