Vice President Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia has donated $40,000 for the kidney transplant of the Western Regional Deputy Imam of Ahlussunna wal-Jamaa, Sheikh Abdul Karim Yusuf, who is suffering from kidney failure.
Bawumia fulfilled his pledge on Monday after the leadership of the Muslim community of the Western Region with the support of the Western Regional Minister, Hon. Kwabena-Okyere Darko Mensah, paid a courtesy call on him on Friday.
“In shaa Allah I am going to take up the full cost of the sheikh’s medication in India,” reported tawheedmedia.org which quoted Bawumia.
The imam has been bedridden for months at the Effia Nkwanta Hospital undergoing dialysis three times a week as the Muslim community tried to raise $36,000 needed to help fly him to India for a kidney transplant.
The Vice President’s gesture has been praised by many and Sheikh Abdul Karim Yusuf is scheduled to be flown to India this week.
