The Asante-Bekwai Office of the Driver and vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has appealed for the expansion of its operational activities to include vehicle inspection and registration.

Mr. Eric Ayisi Addo, the District License Officer said this could significantly help to reduce the pressure and congestion at the Kumasi Office.

He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that with its modern facilities and vast land space, it has the capacity to efficiently carry out vehicle registration and licensing services.

Its operation is currently limited to issuance of driver licenses and road worthy certificates. On the average, it gives out 195 new driver’s licenses and 360 road certificates to motorists every month.

Mr. Addo said they also inspect and investigate about 20 road traffic accidents monthly.

Given its proximity to Kumasi, many find it more convenient to apply for licenses and renew their road worthy certificates there.

He said insufficient knowledge about road traffic signs and markings was the major problem a number of prospective applicants for licenses have to contend with.

He called on people in the Bekwai Municipality and the adjoining districts to take advantage of the state-of-the-art facilities at the office to acquire driver’s licenses and renew vehicle road worthy certificates there.**
