Koforidua, Oct. 30, GNA - Rev Canon Calvin C. Mclntyre of the New York Diocese of the Anglican Church has said Christians in Africa should resist western liberal ideas that are alien to the teachings of the Bible.

He said some of the western liberal ideas threatening the unity of the Church in the US could find their way into Africa. Rev Canon Mclntyre said this in a sermon at the silver jubilee and synod thanksgivings service of the Koforidua Diocese of the Anglican Church at Koforidua on Sunday.

He said a lot of changes had taken place since the establishment of the Koforidua Diocese 25 years ago and appealed to the church to reposition itself in a way that would enable it to maintain the faith that guided the founding fathers of the diocese. As part of the silver jubilee celebrations, 96 persons who had contributed to the growth of the church for the past 25 years were honoured.

Among them were Most Rev Robert G. A. Okine, the retired Archbishop of the Anglican Province of West Africa and the first Bishop of the diocese and Mr Ntow Bediako, the District Chief Executive of Asuogyaman.

The church launched an appeal for 500 million cedis to acquire medical equipment to develop the Kwahu Jamase Clinic of the church into a hospital.
