A 13-year-old girl died on the spot while two other relatives sustained life-threatening injuries when a bus ran over them on Thursday night at Kasena-Nankana East.
The accident occurred on a section of the Navrongo-Tumu road which is still under construction when a farmer returning home with his two children riding pillion were ran over by the bus.
According to an eyewitness, a passenger bus en route to Sandema which was at that moment also plying that portion of the road, on reaching the narrow bridge, sped on instead of the usual act of slowing down, running over the family in the process.
The farmer who had lost control of his motorbike was able to pull his son to safety but lost his daughter whose head got ran over by the bus.
The eyewitness added that, efforts at stopping the bus by sympathizers and other road users that moment were ineffectual as the driver of the bus continued with the journey.
A report was however lodged with the Navrongo Police who conveyed the injured to the War Memorial Hospital for medical attention.
The mortal remains of the deceased has also been deposited at the hospital's morgue.
As at when this report was being filed, the Police were making moves through phone calls to other stations at Chuchuliga, Sandema, Chiana and Tumu at identifying the driver and getting him arrested.
