Awutu-Mankessim (C/R), May 26, GNA - The chief of Awutu-Mankessim and Abakomahene of Awutu Traditional Area, Nai Kwao Otuo V, has reiterated his call on the government and parliament to have a second look at the phone-in programmes on the various FM Radio Stations in the country. Making the suggestion at a meeting with farmers at Awutu-Mankessim, Nai Otuo, who is also the 1994 second national best farmer, said, notwithstanding the criticisms, which his first suggestion on the issue carried by a section of the media, he will continue to make his voice heard on issues that could plunge the nation into confusion and disarray.
"We shall not sit down unconcerned for a handful of people to woefully misuse the power of freedom of speech enshrined in the 1992 constitution through unguarded statements during political discussions on the air waves to undermine the peace and stability the country had been enjoying in the past 20 years.".
He said it is the cardinal responsibility of both the government and legislature to curb any unpleasant issue that could trigger civil disorder in the country and eventually plunge it into civil war. Nai Otuo reminded Ghanaians that the country's democracy has reached a stage which must be critically and jealously protected in order to maintain the peace in it to ensure its advancement in the struggle for economic emancipation.
He cautioned those whose utterances tends to sow seeds of discord and disintegration among the citizenry to first think about the millions of Ghanaians as well as foreign nationals in the country before making comments on the air waves.
"We cannot painfully sacrifice our much acclaimed democracy however, fragile it might be, for civil war, which only comes in to destroy and not to build", Nai Otuo added.
