All natives of Dagbon living in Ghana and abroad should come home and invest in Yendi because there is peace in the area, Alhaji Mugisu Sibawey, National President of the Abudu Youth Group, has said.

According to him, the youth of the area have embraced the peace process being led by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and are poised to ensure that there is absolute peace in the area.

Mr Sibaway told Kwabena Prah Jnr. (The Don) on Ghana Yensom on Accra 100.5FM on Thursday, 13 December that: “There is peace in Yendi, and, so, everyone, both natives of the area and non-indigenes should come, settle, do business and enjoy the peace in Yendi.”

The government of Ghana has deployed a heavy police and military force to the town to avert any possible conflict ahead of the final funeral rites of Ya Na Mahamudu Abudulai on Friday.

For more than 16 years, there have been a conflict between the Andanis and Abudus over who becomes the Ya Na or paramount chief of Dagbon.

On Wednesday, 21 November 2018, the Otumfuo Mediation Committee handling the Dagbon chieftaincy stalemate, met President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to discuss a roadmap to restore peace to the area.

During that meeting, Mr Akufo-Addo said he has no preferential candidate as far as who becomes the next Dagbon Overlord (Ya Na) is concerned.

His only interest, he said, is to see the area flourish and prosper in peace, as the choice of who becomes the next Ya Na is the sole preserve of the chiefs and people of Dagbon.

“I have said on many occasions, I am not a Dagomba and, I, therefore, cannot be an Andani or Abudu. I have no candidate for the office of the Ya Na. That is a matter for the people of Dagbon."

“I am just an ordinary Ghanaian who wants to see the peace, progress and prosperity of all parts of our beautiful country without any discrimination or differentiation.”
