Apostle Onyina Gyamfi, Dansoman Area Head of The Church of Pentecost desilting the choked gutter
The Church of Pentecost (COP) Dansoman Area, under the leadership of Apostle Onyinah Gyamfi, on Wednesday, 6th March 2019 (which marked the 62nd Independence Day of Ghana) implemented the environmental care campaign by desilting choked gutters in Sakaman, Accra, and cleaning the Mallam market in the Ablekuma North Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
The church members were joined by Hon. Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, the immediate past Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly and current Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South constituency.
According to the former Mayor of Accra, he took the decision to join the Church upon hearing the announcement in one of the Local Assemblies of the Church of Pentecost.
He commended the leadership of the Church for putting its words into practice and advised other Churches to emulate the COP’s good example. He called on District, Municipal and Metropolitan Assemblies (MMDA’S) to allocate funds in their budgets to obtain tools and equipment to support such laudable exercises.
The Church of Pentecost, which has a global membership of more that 3.0 million people, has contributed very significantly to Ghana’s development for many decades through its schools, health facilities, support for orphanages, chaplaincy in prisons, scholarship schemes for needy students and disaster relief activities support for prisoners and hospitalized patients, among many other interventions.
Under the leadership of the new Chairman, Apostle Eric Nyamekye and his Executive Council, an environmental cleaning campaign has been launched in collaboration with Zoomlion Ghana Limited, on November 23, 2018 in Accra at the ATTC Centre-Kokomlemle, to promote a clean Ghana.
This is based on the strategic objectives of the Church’s Vision 2023 document which aims at transforming the nations with the values and principles of the Kingdom of God.
In their branded T-Shirts and caps with the campaign slogan “Environmental Care, My Responsibility” Hundreds of members from the fifteen Districts that form the Dansoman Area of the Church of Pentecost converged at the Sakaman Central Assembly of the Sakaman District to participate in the clean-up exercise at the Mallam Market and Sakaman community. Members held evangelistic placards along the Mallam stretch of the Kaneshie-Kasoa road with inscriptions: “Jesus is coming again”, “salvation is free”, “Only Jesus can save”, among others.
The Dansoman Area Head, Apostle Onyinah Gyamfi indicated that as part of the Church’s agenda ‘vision 2023’ has a responsibility to contribute its quota to promote national development through diverse means, an instance is by supporting environmental health.
He stressed on the need to ensure the place we work or live is clean, and that it is better to serve God in a cleaner environment.
Apostle Onyinah Gyamfi called on government through the sanitation ministry to educate Ghanaians on the need to keep our environment clean through the use of mass media.
He commended members for turning up in their numbers to help make the exercise successful and tasked all District Pastors to ensure they continue the exercise in their respective Districts by cleaning the communities that are engulfed with heap of filth and choked gutters.
Interacting with market women at the Mallam Market, the Dansoman Area Head pleaded with them not to litter around or leave refuse behind when they close from market but to dump their refuse at the appropriate place to make the market clean in order to attract more customers and enjoy healthier lives.
The Mamprobi District Pastor, Rev. OpuniBoateng who happens to be the area Bible study and home cell coordinator and Area coordinator for the environmental care campaign appealed to various community leaders to rally behind the church and help clean up their communities.
