Fri, 7 Apr 2006 Source: --

Ferdinand Ayim, the special assistant to the Minister of Tourism and Modernisation of the Capital City, perished in a road accident, late last night, on the Accra-Kumasi highway at Osino.

Ayim, the chairman of the National Planning Committee on the Solar Eclipse, is reported to have driven his four wheel drive into a tanker.

Two others were reported killed. The bodies have been deposited at the Kyebi government hospital mortuary.

According to a local radio station report, the first witnesses to arrive on the scene went through Ayim's cell phone to make contacts with those on the phone apparently to inform them of the tragic accident and his subsequent death.

Mr Ayim was a founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)

Last August, three prominent Ghanaian doctors were killed on this same "highway". On the average, six people are killed daily on our roads resulting in the death of about 1,800 people a year.
