The Director for Communication and Corporate Affairs for Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Mrs. Emma Akyea-Boakye, has observed that the filth menace in the capital is becoming alarming and even scaring away investors.

“If we don’t change our attitude as a people, filth will consume us one day. Nothing else will cure this urban filth, rather than the consciousness of citizens in garbage management in their household

The situation is threatening, she told Kasapa 102.5 FM adding: "No matter the efficiency and investment by Zoomlion or huge budget allocations from the national government, if we don’t change our lifestyle and limit plastics in circulation, we’ll not see the end in sight of the poor sanitation.”

Her comment comes on the heels of the tonnes of garbage floated in an open drain behind the Paloma Hotel after it rained Friday, February 28.

The tonnes of waste characterised by used plastic bottles, packs and plastic bags were captured in an amateur video floating in the storm drain at Nima that crosses the Ring Road into Assylum Down.

This happened a day after the Ghana Meteorological Agency said persons living in and around areas such as Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Weija and the Graphic Road, should prepare to experience flash floods as the rains begin to pour down.

Commenting on the poor spectacle seen in the video circulating, Mrs Akyea Boakye urged all and sundry to join the civic consciousness towards proper sanitation practices.

She added turning a blind eye to the alarming condition of the filth is not godliness.
